3 Types Face Contouring: For a slimmer face and a short chin

Image
Hello, This is Dr. Jongrim Park, the bone specialist at Samsao Plastic Surgery Clinic. Today, I’d like to introduce a patient’s surgical case after a long time. The patient wanted a slimmer face. They had a short and blunt chin, so I recommended extending the chin length along with square jaw reduction and zygoma reduction surgery. Let me show you the before-and-after CT scans. This is a frontal CT scan. You can see that the chin has become slimmer and the length has also increased, right? You can observe the bone graft inserted between the segments. By performing a corticotomy on the mandible, the chin has become slimmer, and you can also see that the zygoma (cheekbones) has been well reduced. Here are the post-operative CT scans of the left and right sides. You can clearly observe that the chin has lengthened. The jawline is also neatly contoured, the cheekbones are well fixed, and the bone contact is very well aligned. Proper bone contact is crucial. The bones need to be well-a...

Do facial contouring or zygoma reduction surgeries cause nosebleeds?

Image
Hello, This is Dr. Jongrim Park, also known as the "Bone Specialist" at 345 Plastic Surgery. Today, I would like to address a question that patients who have undergone zygoma reduction surgery often ask. "After having zygoma reduction surgery, I’ve been experiencing nosebleeds for a few days. Is this normal?" Here is the explanation and answer to this question. When undergoing zygoma reduction surgery, blood from the surgical area may accumulate in the sinuses . The sinuses are air-filled cavities within the bones, and when fluid or mucus fills these spaces, it leads to conditions commonly referred to as sinusitis or sinus infection . However, even if blood collects in the sinuses, it does not pose a problem . Our  body has a well-designed drainage system! Through the pathways shown in the illustration, blood gradually flows out. As the blood flows out, it mixes with mucus or saliva, appearing as nosebleeds or blood-streaked sputum . However! If you try to clear ...

Why is a small chin often associated with a youthful appearance?

Image
Hello, This is Dr. Jongrim Park, a specialist in bone structure. Lately, "youthful appearance" has been a hot topic. Regardless of age, people are making efforts to look more youthful. This trend is also noticeable in contouring surgeries, which I frequently perform. Many people want to make their chins shorter and smaller. But why does having a small chin make someone look younger?  The graph above represents the growth curve of our body. It might look complex, but when you break it down, it’s not too difficult to understand. The x-axis represents time. The leftmost point indicates birth, and as you move to the right, it represents aging. The graph for the brain shows a rapid increase right after birth. From the moment we are born, the brain grows significantly, and by around the age of 10, it almost reaches the size of an adult’s head. However, the face grows later than the brain. If you look at the size at age 10, the head is quite large, but the face (especially the chin)...

Fixation methods after zygoma reduction surgery! Double fixation? Triple fixation?

Effective Fixation Methods After Zygoma Reduction Surgery by Dr. Park Jonglim As a bone specialist at 345 Plastic Surgery Clinic, I often get asked about the most effective methods of fixation after zygoma reduction surgery. This procedure is designed to reduce and reposition the zygomatic bone, but the fixation techniques used afterward play a crucial role in ensuring proper healing and preventing complications like nonunion. Understanding the Forces Acting on the Zygomatic Bone Post-Surgery After performing osteotomy to reduce the zygoma, two main forces act on the surgically repositioned zygomatic bone. These forces primarily stem from the powerful chewing muscles, namely the masseter and temporalis muscles . Masseter Muscle: This large, powerful muscle connects the zygomatic bone to the mandible and is responsible for chewing. When it contracts, it pulls the zygomatic bone and mandible together, applying a downward force on the zygomatic bone. Temporalis Muscle: Although it does...
