The effects of endoscopic forehead lifting.
Hello,
I am Dr. Han Gyunam from 345 Plastic Surgery.
When there is drooping of the eyelids, we typically consider upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) or browpexy (eyebrow lift).
However, sometimes after upper eyelid surgery, the double eyelids become more prominent, and the impression of the face can change for the worse.
This typically happens when the eyelid skin is thick and there is excess fat, especially in cases where the eyes appear sunken.
But there are also cases where the impression worsens even though there is little fat and the skin is not thick.
In these cases, the eyebrow may droop down, bringing the eyebrow closer to the eye, resulting in thick eyelids.
In fact, most Westerners have their eyebrows relatively close to their eyes when viewed from the front. However, due to their protruding bones and deep-set eyes, the position of their eyebrows doesn't significantly affect the eyelid.
For Korean women, the bones in the eyebrow area tend to be flat, and the forehead and upper eyelid often form a continuous, flat surface.
The position of the eyebrows, influenced by the habitual use of the forehead muscles, glabellar muscles, and the orbicularis oculi, gradually changes as we age.
When there is a feeling of eyelid drooping, the eyebrows may drop, causing the space between the eyebrow and the eye to shrink, making the person appear to frown. In such cases, lifting the eyebrows can make the expression much brighter.
It's like the change in expression you get when you're feeling down on a bad day, and suddenly, your partner appears with a surprise gift when you thought you wouldn't see them—it's an unexpected and happy change in your face.
The effect of endoscopic forehead lifting can be summarized in one phrase: a brighter expression.
Additionally, the following benefits can be seen:
- Improvement in eyelid drooping and swollen appearance
- Reduction of forehead and glabellar wrinkles
- Softer curve of the forehead
The first thing to note is that younger individuals who do not want double eyelids may think that lifting the eyebrows will improve the shape. However, trying to pull tight, firm tissue that does not have any drooping may result in minimal effects. Especially in young men with thicker tissue, careful consideration is necessary before deciding to undergo surgery.
Secondly, in cases where the tissue is highly elastic (such as in Westerners), even if the eyebrows are raised significantly during surgery, they may soon return to their original position. Although the entire forehead tissue is lifted during the procedure, the skin may not be sufficiently pulled due to slipping between layers of tissue, or the skin may quickly stretch and fall again.
In such cases, the surgery should be done with the goal of weakening the glabellar muscles, which pull the eyebrows downward, and the position of the eyebrows may not rise significantly. It’s important to explain this beforehand.
Lastly, when using endotine, there may be pain at the fixed points of the endotine for up to 2-3 months, especially in individuals with thinner skin. You should be aware of this beforehand.
I hope you have a successful surgery!
